Growing Your Business Online aka Way of the Tortoise

I’m announcing a series of articles about growing your business and presence online. I’m just calling it “Way of the Tortoise” for now because I think that anything worth doing is worth doing well and it takes the investment of your most valuable—and irreplacable—resource. Your time.

What this series will cover

This set is meant to cover several areas of digital marketing and even some branding. I’ll discuss several topics.

  • Content creation and marketing. You have to do it; there are no other options.
  • Content optimization aka SEO and best practices
  • Marketing automation
  • Formalizing how you talk about your business, how, and where to market
  • Socializing your business
  • Tools and resources to market and automate your marketing efforts.

In fact, some of these topics have already been touched upon in other articles on the site.

Who is this series for?

It’s for anyone who runs their own business. It’s for anyone who has a thing they want to make people aware of. It’s for anyone who has a thing they want to sell to someone.

When?

I’m going to start this week and try to put together at least one post every week on this. We’ll see how I do with it.

Why?

Digital Marketing is a big part of what I do for a living. Probably the most significant part of what I do for a living. Yes, I’m a developer and spend a lot of time building sites. However, the site isn’t the thing I sell. The thing I sell is a business solution. The solution I provide is a platform that delivers a better tomorrow.

I talk to clients all week long. I talk to customers from the Small Business Development Center, also all week long. There’s a recurring theme among all these discussions that I have. People want to market what they do and what they sell. They don’t know how to. They don’t know what information is correct and what is not.

There is no “growth hacking” or any hacking of any type. We’re talking sensible and actionable advice to help build your profile and start building your online empire. I know, that sounds over the top, but I mean it.

If you work slowly but consistently, you will succeed better than if you work fast for a short while and do not continue. This series is built on the premise that slow and steady wins the race… every time!

  1. Dude, that is the best name I’ve ever heard. Way of the Tortoise? Incredible! It sounds like an old kung fu movie, filled with badassness.

Also, this is awesome, “Yes, I’m a developer and spend a lot of time building sites. However, the site isn’t the thing I sell. The thing I sell is a business solution. The thing I provide is a platform that delivers a better tomorrow.”
