Claude User Meetup Pasadena 10/28/2026 Recap

Hey there,
I know you didn't attend the Claude Meetup this week but I thought, hey, maybe you'd want the newsletter regardless!. So here it is. Enjoy.
Presentations
Jonathan Levy: Lidflipper, a field app built with Claude
Jonathan isn't a developer but he plays one on Claude. He built a field app for a city recycling audit in about 10 hours over one weekend by following Claude's step-by-step instructions and pasting every error back to it.
- Apps: Claude, Google Sheets as the database, and AppSheet for the no-code phone app (map, route list, progress dashboard).
- His tips: paste the exact error and say what you expected, ship early and expect it to break, and save your decisions in your Claude Project instructions.
Alex Vasquez (Me): getting my bots to message Claude Code
I built a bridge that lets my AI agents send work to my Claude Code sessions and get answers back, so I'm no longer the copy-paste router between them. See the deck
Other Topics of Discussion
We touched on AI disclosures. Do ya do em? I shared a story of how I pissed up at least a dozen accountants and bookkeepers with my outbound-AI-voice-agent shenanigans... AKA I got called an asshole so you don't have to.
AI Disclosures Surrounding Voice Agents
What CA says about it...
So, can AI answer your emails? Yes. Relax. The scary new phone rules (AI voices need consent before they call people) don’t touch your inbox, and California’s shiny new AI Transparency Act only covers images, audio, and video. Your “Thanks so much, circling back!” is safe. The one rule that does apply is California’s bot disclosure law, which says a bot can’t pretend to be a human while it’s trying to sell somebody something. So if your AI is out there replying to leads as “Steve from Sales,” and there is no Steve, and there has never been a Steve, that’s a problem.
The fix is almost insultingly easy: put “drafted with help from our AI assistant” in the signature and move on with your life. The bigger risk isn’t the law, it’s the AI itself. It will cheerfully promise a refund you never offered, so keep a human on anything involving money, promises or an upset customer. And check that your tool isn’t training on your clients’ emails. AI drafts, you hit send. That’s the whole policy. (Not legal advice. I build websites, and I'm chronically online.)
Learning Claude Resources
This one comes up at every meetup: How in the f*** do I use this b*** a** mother****** — those are the words that are politely behind what's a good resource for learning more about Claude? A point well met. So what's what?
We didn't cover the topic in detail and that's largely because I think a lot of people just do it when it comes to AI, whereas in the before-times we looked up sites, forums, talked to our gran-gran about where she got her bootlegged copy of The Wicker Man and what she thought of Wicker - I realize i"M mixing shit up here but you get where I'm going right? No? Well, this is a free newsletter and you're spamming yourself by oepning this. But I digress.
I did a little deep research for you and put together a guide for you all to ingest -
https://claude.ai/public/artifacts/660d69ce-4a01-40ab-ab1e-fe4f00920da7
For YouTube, the guide recommends a few creators who record their actual screens:
- Jeff Su for Cowork.
- Kevin Stratvert for step-by-step feature tutorials. His channel is the safest one to point non-technical clients to.
- Grace Leung for marketing workflows.
- freeCodeCamp, Nick Saraev and Nate Herk for longer Claude Code courses.
A lot of popular Claude videos are sponsored, sell something or promise income, so the guide marks those and lists clickbait titles you can skip.
The guide also covers:
- Newsletters and communities: Simon Willison for security and tool changes, Ethan Mollick for strategy, and the r/ClaudeAI subreddit for troubleshooting.
- A four-week “start here” plan for you, plus a separate shorter path for clients.
Can I get your feedback?
If you have a few minutes, I'd love your feedback on the meetup. What did you like/not-like and what would you like to see from future meetups?

AI Disclosure
Alex — summa this I wrote with AI and the parts that seem like they were written by a mentally-ill child of divorce were definitely written by ME. K?
